Birds in Vine Tile

The Inspiration Challenge on Saturday at Splitcoaststampers was a Pier 1 Living room that can be seen HERE.  I took the challenge.  On Friday, SharonD, one of the Flourishes, and I were lamenting that we both felt that our galleries border stereotyped our individual work and that we both needed to break out of our molds.  So she challenged me to work in her colors and I challenged her to sweet ( OK some times my work is sappy…LOL) and feminine.  So the Saturday challenge fit the bill.  This would make me get away from anything feminine, just look at the living room on that page –it is orange, white, and brown and bold.

Here is the card I made and you all can judge if I broke out of my mold or did I just step out of my color comfort zone.  Please don’t be too hard on me as it is tough to change your stripe when you reach my level in life…LOL.

The card features Flourishes new release Birds in Vines by Marcella Hawley  I have used the stamp that is a composite of the large focal image (large enough for a background) and the individual birds in the set.  I used the colors the challenge presented using Hybrid Palette Burnt Umber for the Vines, Tangerine Tango for the flowers, and Chocolate chip to darken up the birds.  I stamped the image completely inked in Hybrid Palette Burnt Umber then added the other colors using a blender pen for the Tangerine Tango and a marker for the Chocolate Chip.  I then inked the entire image with Versamark and used the embossing powder in clear to make a heavy glaze to resemble a tile.

The next part of the challenge was how to get enough interest for the card.  The plain layering was not working for me, so I embossed both a Tangerine Tango and a White panel for the layer.  Because the living room inspiration was sleek, I could not get fussy and hope I did not miss the mark by using the embossed panel.  I think that it has the same interest of the Birds in a Vine as does our new Birds in Vines set.  The Tangerine and Chocolate Chip layers were easy, not too much to over power, but enough to carry the bold statement.  The ribbon is a brand new addition to the Flourishes wonderful line of ribbons and is a stunning reversible ribbon in really great hues for fall.  The S clip is from SU’s Hodgepodge Hardware.  The sentiment is from the Flourished Words set.  It is treated in the same layering as the rest of the card.

I hope you enjoyed my attempt at breaking our of my really feminine mold.  I am so glad that you have taken your precious time to visit with me in the Atelier.  Thanks for coming today.
