Want to learn the creative ins and outs with Becca Feeken and Faith-Markie’s Mom? You Can…Flourishes is hosting a Stampers Dream Weekend Feb 21-22 with a separate Copic Certification Class on Monday Feb 23. Scroll down to an older post for all the DEETS! Registration must be made by Feb 9.

I know we all love to see how others put together their work space. My space is located in the Atelier (studio) at Flourishes. It is a very large room and needs to be kept ready for classes. I recently completed a redo in the Atelier and carved out a very private space for myself to work. I have named everything I own for as long as I can remember, cars, rooms in the house,…..you get the drift. Well it was no different when it came to my space…and the name came easily…Creative License…well I do my creative work there….but more than that just about everything there has been re purposed and now serves me well in another capacity. Would you like to peak inside?

Come on and I will show you around.

Here is a look at Creative License from the Atelier.

My space was originally a large closet that the doors were removed, a counter top installed along with a bookcase from another time in our home–it was mounted on the wall. The entire space in only 6 feet deep by 9 feet wide, but feels spacious and everything is a my fingertips. The exterior “walls” are screens that Mike brought home from a tour in Thailand. We separated them making a right and left corner wall..one for each side…kind of bird cage. The bird cage works with the wonderful fabric that the roman shade is made from. The cage allow air to circulate.and me to feel as though I have this very private space. Overhead halogens ceiling mounted lights and a small ceiling fan keep the air circulating…yes I do turn it off when the glitter or EP is out…LOL

I just love my chair…it is old and comfty, but for this time around it need ed to be dressed up and pretty. My friend, Sharon is a stitcher and did all the work on my chair, the beautiful roman shade that can shut off my space from the entire studio.

Here is my chair now: And a look under the pretty skirt:

Now I am sitting pretty!

To my right is the storage for my stamp sets, small punches, re inkers and the like. I have re purposed literary storage units that were previously housed my papers, but I just felt were too big. These were fitted with photo storage boxes from Michaels–all in white and black. The other items are arranged in clear acrylic picture frames also from Michaels and the are now trays to house re inkers, embossing powders, dauber cases, small punches and look like this:

Up close of the frames turned trays.
Here is my actual work space. The counter top is a regular laminate top. My DH has wired small halogen lights under the bookcase. The wiring also allows for extra plugs for embossing gun which is hung on a cup hook just above my lava lamp. Those wonderful inkpad storage units were built for me by Mr Mike Wiggins a organizemore.com. He is the most delightful man to work with and you will see a be more of his woodwork in just a minute.

This is the storage space just to my right on the work space.
Look at the embossing gun just above the lava lamp! My small embellishments are housed in the original container that many of them came it. I have added a magnet strip to the back of each container and the hung a magnetic board I got at WalMart–again at my finger tips. The desk top paper storage units is also from Mike Wiggins at Organizemore.com

Just on the side of this and moving toward the
door way of my space is my tall paper storage units-2 mounted together and to the wall. The slots are 1 inch each and hold plenty of paper for me. Next to them are storage units that house projects that I am working on or spare parts.

So this is your first glimpse of my Creative License. Soon I will show some of my other fun and re purposing of items for great use in my work space, but that will have to wait as this post is getting long. So come again another time for MORE of Creative License. I have lots more re- purposed things to share.

Here is a parting shot for today. Thanks for coming to visit with me today at Creative License. I hope you enjoyed the visit come again soon.

My wish for you is that today be filled with blessings and your mojo overflowing.

Ciao,

Beautiful But Difficult

On Christmas Eve our parish priest had the very sad news to announce the death of a  young lady in our parish.  She was a beautiful, single woman of 27 years.  She had not shown up for a gathering and numerous calls went unanswered . A friend found that she had died in her sleep.

sympathy-for-tiffany-b-banner-a

I wanted to make a card that could hold some of the delicate features of her as well as the beauty of her young life.  This card needed to embody the femininity of her and not dwell totally on the sadness at hand, but rather the life that she envisioned.  So I set about to do such a tall task.  It wasn’t as easy as I thought.  I fiddled with elements until I felt they were right.  Here is the result of my fiddling ….a card that I think she would love.sympathy-for-tiffanyb4-a2

Her faith was so strong and I felt that this image from Flourishes Easter Blessings would be a perfect tribute.    The card is not so remorse, showing her belief in resurrection, somber and veiled with the designer paper and sheer ribbons.  The sentiment is from Flourishes Thinking of You.  I love to use two sets on a card and this card shows the versatility that we strive for in our images.  The card is comprised of several elements, dotted swiss vellim made with my Cuttlebug folders and blended with this beautiful lace looking Memory Box paper.  The focal image itself speaks volumes.  The sentinment is beautiful and blends, pulling all the elements together with the softness of the sheer ribbon bow.  The card almost demanded small pearls as a final touch.

The image was watercolored and stamped with Versamark onto water color paper, embossed with fine detail gold embossing powder, and then colored with water color crayons and my Aqua Painter.

Here is a close up of the detail for you to see.    I kept the coloring dainty and feminine using a light washsympathy-for-tiffany-watercoloring-up-close-a1 of almost amethyst on the background.  The flowers are painted in a mixture of Pale Pink and Rose Red.  I used a very light hand washing the watercolor paper to keep it moist so that my colors would flow.

Supplies:

Flourishes Stamps:  Easter Blessings, Thinking of You

Inks: Versamark-Detail Gold Embossing Powder

Aqua painter, Water color crayons, Painty pen in gold

Papers: Almost Amethyst, Chocolate Chip, Water color paper Memory Box designer paper.

Accessories: Pale Pink sheer Ribbon and Kaiser Flat Back Pearls all from Flourishes.  Edge punch from Marvy

Viola!  I am please with this card and think if meets the criteria I had established for the card.

Thanks for stopping in my corner of “Creative License” at the Atelier.  I hope that your visit will have something for you to take with you.

My wish for you is that you day be filled with blessings and that your mojo be overflowing.

Chair for You–Day Three of Release

DAY THREE

This is very exciting…Our last day of Sneak Peeks is here and we have a really BIG Party planned for our release tonight on our SCS Forum .  I sure hope you will join us.  There will be games, prizes, and surprises!  Y’all Come.

Today we are introducing another wonderful new set from our newest artist, Lauren Pope.  This set is called CHAIRS FOR YOU.  I think you will love the way Lauren plays within the Flourishes guidelines to remain true to our goal of a timeless look, and juxtaposes it with a full dose of whimsy!  I just love it!  So here is the first piece of the Sneak Peek.

Is that a sigh I hear all the way to my computer.  I told you she was good.  Well just hold on and wait until you take the blog tour.  I am sure that it will make you and your computer smile.

So what did I do for the Sneak Peek, you ask.  Well, scroll down just a little further.  I am just pulling you along to see my card.

So here it is:

I love MacKenzie-Childs anything!  So this is a little spin on their style.  What fun I had making  this card.  The Basic Grey papers made it so easy to put this card together.  All the papers are from the Urban Prairie  6 x 6 pad and are the perfect scale for this kind of  project.  The big puffy pillow sitting on this wonderful chair is actually an oversized brad!  I embossed the chair image with gold embossing powder on white cardstock.  The shading under the chair is a touch that Lauren puts on her images that I simply love.

Viola!  Did you like my card????  Leave me a note please!

Here’s the list to go blog hopping…enjoy

Sneak Peak and a New Artist

It’s a new year and it ushers in a new way Flourishes plans to host its releases! On the second Wednesday of each month – we’ll begin our Sneak Peak Countdown to our Friday night release. It will give you a chance so see all the creations from our fabulous designers, and you’ll have a shot at winning the set featured each day.

Today’s set is…..
And, we have a lot to celebrate with this brand new set! It is fresh from the hands of our newest artist, Lauren Pope.

Lauren is a professional illustrator whose work can be found in everything from children’s books and school text books to the world of fashion. As a child, she could be found sitting before open comic books, sketchpad in lap, pencil in hand, diligently honing the skills that would mature into the tools of a true artist. She earned her B.S. and M.A. degrees in Commercial Art at Pensacola Christian College. Her award-winning work has been featured in venues such as the Pensacola Museum of Art in Florida, the Greenhouse Gallery in San Antonio, Texas, and the Roundhouse Gallery in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Lauren’s artistic flame can be ignited by a walk through a garden, a trip to the farmer’s market, or a chance encounter with a captivating human face. To look at her original work visit her etsy site HERE.

Now it is my turn to share my SNEAK PEAK at the new set Birthday Celebrations

This card is for the chocolate lover on my birthday calendar.  It is a simple card to show that all the inspiration doesn’t have to be real difficult.

But I could stop there if I were to take the easy way out.  I made another simple one for you.

birthday-celebration-realease-2-b

This is made on Fabraino cardstock, stamped in Palette Prussian Blue as the ribbon is Navy Sheer from Flourishes.  I paired it with bright pink.  The photo shows this much darker than it really is in real life.

Looking above at the collage, can you get a glimpse of Lauren’s creative style? Here it’s just a sneak peek, but travel to the blogs of our designers and you’ll see Lauren’s work in living color…

Celebrating Home 2

The upcoming release Celebrating Home gave us reason to have a challenge between all of us Flourishes. This challenge was to create using something that inspired us from our home. The has been fun and created some very special cards as well as anything but a card.
Lathisa is in the midst of a move, but still found time and creative juices to put together this fun frame that inspired her while she was shopping.

Very nice indeed, Latisha!

Betty Wright gave us this wonderful card and her inspiration here.

Christine Okken has a great invitation to dinner at her home. This is lovely tied to the beautiful silver that inspired this wonderful card.

Look at the beautiful scrolls in her flatware….what beautiful inspiration. Oh Christine, just what time and day are we invited ?

Cindy Lawerence choose to use these as here inspiration:
She says “This is one of two topiaries that sit on the fireplace mantle in my bedroom. I love ’em! 🙂
Here’s the card I created:

Here is the inspiration I used….it is my kitchen. I really like the colors and patterns that make up this room. It always makes me smile.

So here is my card. I tried to capture the whiteness against the starkness of my kitchen. Coffee with Friends is something that happens a lot here so the set was so apropro for the card. The Cuttlebug folder give the texture to the back layer. The Markie’s Mom (yeah Faith) inspired dots on the edge of the black keep texture going. Most of all I love the cups with the embossed images. The dash of red and tinge of green give my card vibrance and life.
Viola! Another great day of sharing with you. I am so glad you stopped by the Atelier at Flourishes.
I’m hoping that your day will be filled with blessings and that your mojo will be overflowing.
