Archive for February, 2009

It is very late so this will be a short post.  All of the Flourishes Design Team is part our weekly Flourishes Friday Focus.

Laura Fredrickson is our host and has put together a wonderful tutorials on Twinkling H2Os by LuminArte.  These are the most wonderful post of color and mica.  The shimmer is wonderful.  They work wonderfully with an Aqua painter.  A little practice and you will be a pro!  Be sure to visit the Flourishes Newsletter for the entire tutorial.

Here is my card for today.

I used Croygen White for my card and the image was stamped onto Copic sketch book paper.  I actually put down a base coat of color on the poppies and then came back with the Twinks.  Following Laura’s instruction I added the colors to the image and just giggled at the beautiful iridescence of the image.  In real life it is about to jump off the page, yet not harsh in any way.

Here is another look  at a slightly different angle.  The base cardstock was embossed with the Cuttlebug-Swiss dot folder….from both the tom down and bottom up as the card is a legal envelope size.  I use Nestabilities in the ovals and scallops to cut the main image –or entry point of the card.  The scallops was cut from Old Olive paper.  I cut a rectangle of the same paper as base card and embossed 1/4″ around each edge using my Scor-Pal.  The embellishments that finish off the card are:

Flower Soft Peel Off Gold trim, May Arts Ivory 1 inch satin ribbon, Pearls from Kaiser–all from Flourishes store. Oh am I in love with the Gold Peel Off trim from Flower Soft.  It adds a wonderful quality to cards, without lots of work, cutting and layering.  Be sure to check this out, it is certainly something you will want to try and it the perfect touch for so many of the cards made with Flourishes images.

The rest of the design team has been coloring up a storm, so you’ll enjoy stopping in at their blogs to see what shimmering creations they have to share:
Julie Koerber
Christine Okken
Cindy Lawrence
Faith Hofrichter
Latisha Yoast
Leslie Miller
Stacy Morgan

Thanks Laura  for the great tutorial.  Any of you can join in the Friday Focus challenge whether you have Flourishes stamps or not…this week thought you must use Twinkling H2Os…remember there is a weekly prize for participation!

Viola!  That’s it for tonight, my bed is calling!

Living in Color-Day Three

We are at day three of Flourishes Sneak Peeks at the February Sets.  This final day is a very special day on the Flourishes Newsletter.  This is our Friday Focus and you will not want to miss the wonderful tutorial that Christine Okken has done for us.  She shows us all the of steps that take the gear out of water coloring.

The last of our release for this month is Signs of Spring by Marcella Hawley.  Each and every one of her drawings is better that the last and she is soaring to new heights with this set.

So let me introduce a snapshot of the cards in a collage that Julie Koerber has put together for this wonderful set.  Is that a gasp of delight I hear?signs-of-spring-_collage_copy2

I think you will have to agree that this set is a breath of fresh air!  Fun flowers and elements in this set make it  perfect to deliver up a dose of spring in your cards and creations!  It is aptly names and we are all ready for Spring to arrive.

It is here in the panhandle of Florida, trees are blooming, narcissus are up why even my grape hyacinth are blooming, even some azaleas are beginning to show the beginning of color,  but trust me there is still lots of brown around.  I cannot wait for that wonderful bright green of new growth arrives in the trees.  It is such a lovely sight against our every blue skies!

So here is my first take on Signs of Spring…….signs-of-springrelease4

Since the focus was to water color I followed suit.  The image was stamped on the water color paper with Hybrid Palette Charcoal and heat set.  To make the flower present as white I carefully shaded it with Sky Blue and Ballet Blue.  One technique that I use on my images is that I every so lightly re-line the image with th he appropriate color so that the actual image actual recedes a bit.  I did that on all the line on this image.  the pink part of the blossom was first colored with Baby Pink….all the time using my Aquapainter…..detail with darker shades of pink and then adding in highlights of white.  The same process was used for the stems and leaves….each time beginning with the lightest and working to the darkest.  I rushed the background and in person it looks fine but as we all know the camera doesn’t lie…I should have taken more time with this area.

The layers of aqua mist and Basic Grey Urban Prairie paper with pop dots complete the focus of the card. Of course ribbon and an embellishment  top it off…..and

    Living in Color-Day 1

When the art in this release was put on polymer, our designers just couldn’t contain their excitement for these images. It’s a new style. It’s got a new flavor. We hope you find it just as tasty as we do!

So, without further ado. Introducing our first peek!  Our theme for this month is Living In Color and this first set will wet your appetite to do the same.

For those of you that were at the Flourishes Release Party last month on our SCS forum, you know that the hint was given that one of the new sets contains a Peacock.  I am here to tell you that we do indeed have a beautiful peacock in our set that will be released on Friday at our Release Party on Flourishes SCS forum.  I hope you will join us for the chatter, fun and games and there will be lucky winners as well.

Strut Your Stuff is a creation by our newest artist, Lauren Pope.  When Lauren first interviewed with us, one of the items was for her to draw from her own conceptions a possible set for Flourishes.  The only requirement was that it be a 4″ x 6″ set.  What Lauren drew would become  a set and Strut Your Stuff was born.

The rarest of all peacocks is a pure white one.  There is one actually known as Whitey and he is said to be the most perfect of his species.  This card is  designed after a  photograph I have of a wonderful, rare, and regal all white peacock.

Here is  my impression of this beautiful bird.  I imagine that it is as regal and majestic as a king or queen in  full coronation regalia.  This close up shows you some of the detail of the card….a lone feather was stamped multiple times using Brilliance White ink on vellum, then detailed with a Stardust pen to give it just a bit more of that dazzling wonderment of regal robes, then pearls of varying sizes were added.  The bird was stamped the same way and attached to gray cardstock.

Want to see more of the regal creature…….

Here you can see the detailing to the image.  I used my Ranger White Essential and the Stardust pen in clear to add more depth and dimension to the bird.  The image was first stamped onto the vellum in Brilliance white and embossed with white ultra detail powder.  In real life the image just shimmers, but that shimmer is hard to catch by the camera.

The front of card shows the full majesty and regalness I wanted so to capture…you will notice that there is no sentiment …anything I attempted detracted, so that will be left to the inside of this card.

So here is my Regal White Peacock!

strut-your-stuff-release-2b1Now it is off to the coronation ball, don’t you think?

    Supplies:  Strut Your Stuff

Papers: Vellum, Silver and gold mirror cardstock, white  and gray cardstock.

Kaiser Flat back pearls, ranger White Essential pen, Saukara Stardust pen(clear); Ribbon of dubious ancestory…(not sure how it got invited to such an elegant affair..LOL)

    Pop glue dots

Let Me Introduce You to Sophie

There is a new special somebody at Flourishes. Her name is Sophie. She is going to be an exciting and inspiring part of our team. She is younger that most of us…and has her own thoughts on things. She has a couple of friends that hang with her as well. I am sure that she will introduce them to you at some point. They are charming young ladies! So here’s Sophie. Now Sophie, will you tell everyone a little about your self?

    Hello Flourishes Customers,

I knew that the three flourishes would get around to introducing me. I am so excited to be working with them and you –ok virtually working with you. The three Flourishes initally hired me to help out.

I‘ve been working on my master’s at the University of West Florida here in Pensacola. My prof said that for our directed study, we must have a job in a field that relates to our educational focus. Well, heck, my focus is to catch a Navy flight student, become an owner of a company like Flourishes and have fun doing it all! So I applied here at Flourishes, and these 3 darling ladies hired me. Hopefully, they will let me design for them too– what do you think? I’d love to design a set that you can turn around and do FAB things with!

They’ve had me working on the inventory in the shipping room…. this could be fun and interesting! Now I hope that they have me doing something more than counting inventory! I am dying to be let loose in the shipping room. I want to touch and feel it all!

My friends tell me I have such a good sense of color and design. I convinced the 3 flourishes that I would like to share that with you, so we have worked out a deal that for you! Twice a month they will let me offer a Sophie Special.

How Cool Is That!?!?! My own special just for you!

Here is what I am going to do for you – I will go through the inventory and match up the best combo of inks, paper, ribbons and accessories for you…and you get to have it as a package deal. Each special will run for two weeks only – so if you want them you’d better shop early!

So here’s today’s Sophie special that’s good thru Feb 14th:

1 Basic Grey Pad of 6 x 6 Euphoria paper

1 pkg Euphora coordinating Designer Brads–the coolest!

1 pkg of each of these great ribbons- 5 yds of each: Lavendar Sheer, Apple Green Scallop, Burgandy 1″ satin

1 Palette Hybrid Lavender Ink with refill

    Sophie’s Special Price……………$27.40 that’s a 15% savings!!!

I’d better go for now. I don’t want to get caught goofing off on my first week – that would be bad! I’ll be in touch! As soon as I get an email set up here I will give it to you and we can chat. I can give you the inside scoop on what’s happening here! I am just so tanked about having this job!

Smooches for each cheek, and I’ll be back on the 15th with a new special package.Sophie

timelesstuesdaycopy11The news is exciting, the Friends of Flourishes have moved their collective post to Tuesdays and it has a great new name Timeless Tuesdays.  It’s going to be great fun as they challenge us each week to take part in their fun.  So here is my card to celebrate this new challenge on Flourishes.

This weeks’ challenge is hosted by Cindy Haffner and she choose for us to use a swril or flourish in our card.  My flourish is found just below the sentiment.  Visit the Flourishes Newsletter for the detail and blog links…belive me you will be blown away.  I have seen the cards and each and every one is Fabulous!

The love birds are from Flourishes’ Love Nest.  The images in this set are just adorable, and it is one of my favorite sets.  The set has wonderful images, pieces that mix and match and is versatile in the variations of the sentiments ranging from new home to we’re expecting.  The sentiment is from Birds in Vine, a wonderful set that Marcella Hawley created for us.

I used the Nestabilities heart, scallop and plain cutting one solid scallop and the second one has the middle cut out, to allow for me to pop it up.  I also cut the DP (Basic Grey-Bittersweet) using a larger size heart for the background.  The rest of the card is very straight forward.

Supplies: All suupplies are from Flourishes (FLLC)

Papers:   Basic Grey-Bittersweet, Regal Rose, Chocolate Chip,  Ripe Avocado and White.

Ribbon: Brown satin by May Arts-Flourishes

Pearls and Rhinestones are from Kaiser also from Flourishes

Here’s a parting look at these sweet love birds, before we fly off to catch  up with the Friends of Flourishes at the Timeless Tuesday kickoff challenge.  Be sure to check the rules to play along.

As always it is my pleasure to have you peak in at “Creative License”  I am glad you came and hope you took something away.

My wish for you is that you day be filled with blessings and your mojo be overflowing.

Now Fly Away to the Flourishes Newsletter and enjoy your flight of Tmeless Tuesdays!
