Yummy Peaches

Posted by: Jan Marie | September 30th, 2010

Last week we had Beate John’s tutorial using Copics and colored pencils. Today I am posting a card using that method. The depth and colors that can be achieved is unbelievable expansive. The card is simple and straightforward. Here is the card.  Beate used the Peaches and Cherries and I used the same.

Peaches for Dee a

I used Flourishes Classic White paper, stamped in Rich Cocoa Memento ink  and colored the images using a variety of yellows ,oranges and greens to achieve this look in both Copics and colored pencils.  Smoothing with the Copic clear blender pens smooths everything out very nicely.  I also used my colorless blender pencil over the pencils for the blended look.  I loved the layering and the depth that I could achieve using these mixed media.

I simply used designer papers and Nestabilities ovals scallops for cutting the shapes, then punched with SU notched notebook punch. It seemed like a good idea at the time.   A few simple embellishments and ribbon were the finishing touches.  The sentiment comes from the Flourishes set Thinking of You.

I hope you will refer back to our tutorial section and re-look at Beate’s amazing tutorial and then give it a try.  Then I hope you will post your cards on our Splitcoast gallery for us all to see.

Ciao for now,

Jan Marie

Apple of my Eye

Hi All,

I have had this idea in my mind for a card since I saw the Apple of my Eye set, but with release week I knew I needed to keep things simple.  I finally have had the time to sit down and color.  I wanted a real water colored look and the very moment I saw the Prima Fairy Flora paper I knew that was it.

To make the card I stamped the image using the Memento Rich Cocoa and stamped directly onto the Fairy Flora paper and colored the image using a slew of Copics.  This worked well, the paper did not bleed as I had feared and believe me I blended a lot of colors.  I used my Opaque White Ranger pen to bring back some of the white to the blossoms. Coloring directly on the dp was a delight and enabled me to get a totally different look rather than working to achieve the full water colored look done by hand.  I hope you can feel my thrill and satisfaction with the technique.  I have colored on designer paper before but never on this scale and focus to really incorporate the dp to look so immersed and not stand out as a background designer paper.

The card size is 5″ x 7″  to accommodate the entire scope of the image without having to trim away the beautiful dp.  I layered the card using SU papers Taken with Teal and golden yellow which I don’t know the name….sorry no SU catalog to refer to for the information.  The combination is different but I was pleased how it brought out the colors of the dp.  To make this a more special look I used the Nestabilities  Classic Lace Borderabilities.  I did a version in white and one in ivory and decided the ivory had the softer look I was going for in the card.  The May Arts ribbon is the perfect finishing touch IMHO…..the apple green and edge of turquoise just said “Yes this is it” to my mind.

Thanks for stopping in today and I hope you enjoyed my version of this set.

    Sneak Peak 2

Jack-o-lantern smiling bright, Witches flying in the night, Ghosts and goblins, cats and bats,Witches with their funny hats,  A full moon can’t be beat… as the kiddos go out to trick or treat! With the ‘Night of Fright’ in mind, Marcella Hawley grabbed her artist pen and whipped up some spirited whimsy in honor of this fun-filled holiday!

    Witching you a Happy Halloween

This cute and sassy set is sure to give you a warm glow! Jack O’Lanterns, bats, witches’ brooms and hats — these are just some of the spunky and spooky offerings! On top of it all, this set features 8 different sentiments perfect for your tricks and treats!  Would you like to win this set? Simply leave us a comment on this post! We’ll draw a winner and announce this coming Saturday in our Winner’s Circle!

Isn’t this bewitchingly cute……and it just the sneak.  Marcella has taken on a vintage humor with this very first venture into Halloween for Flourishes.

My card is again very simple, so while my mojo gets grovin again I will be happy with simple and easy so you will make one too.

Now as I really look at this card from a different prospective,  to me even the cat looks frightened.  I had fun using simple colors from Copics and then used the Spica glitter pens to highlight all three of the images.  A piece from the Finishing Touches brads group was placed on the witch’s hat and a black pearl is in the center of it.  Four tiny black pearls in each corner finish off the top layer (Flourishes Classic White–LOVE THT PAPER!!!)  A simple grounding line in grey and multiliner help to keep the images from flying off the card.  The designer paper is from 7 Gypsies, the ribbon is also from the Flourishes store and it’s finished off with the a ribbon slide (yes they are back in stock).

So skip on over to see the DT and their sweet offerings! Some of them even have treats in the form of  BLOG CANDY to dole out! So, be sure to stop by and say “Hi” to them all!

    Sneak Peaks are here!

Posted by: Jan Marie | September 14th, 2010

Onto today’s peek! When I think of Autumn, I cherish the changing of leaves and the spiced smells of hot cider cooking on the stove. Add Marcella Hawley into that equation and you “meet” our first lovely set that is ripe for fall!

Apple of My Eye Graphic copy

This set not only features a gorgeous cluster of apple blossoms but there are lots of additional images that are perfect for fall creations… a hot mug of cider, a carmeled apple, and… more! Of course, a set wouldn’t be complete without a beautiful array of sentiments to mix and match! Would you like to win this set? Simply leave us a comment sharing with us your favorite thing about fall! We’ll draw a winner and annouce this coming Saturday in our Winner’s Circle!

Here is my card for the Apple of my Eye set.  Simple and direct, but I found it pleasing, I hope you agree as well.

    Apple of my eve-small apple1

I used Flourishes Classic White paper for the  apple and then colored it with the Copics.  The Nestabilities I used Labels 15 and Lacy Square.  Papers were from SU and 7 Gypsies Victoria.  That snazzy ribbon is from Flourishes store.  The nail heads (they look like brads, but are not) are a new embellishment in the store.  They are self adhesive and oh so much easier than the brads we loved.

Not only will you get some eye candy when you visit the DT’s blogs today, a couple of them have BLOG CANDY too! So, be sure to stop by and say “HI” to them all!

  • Christine Okken
  • Cindy Lawrence… has blog candy!

    No Kidding Around

Well, all of us at Flourishes have been anxiously awaiting the man in brown … bringing us boxes full of our next stamp release. If you could see our faces right now, you’d know we are sitting on pins and needles. So much so, we had some time to come up with a little poem to explain why we don’t have our usual sneak peeks today……

The shelves at Flourishes are bare,
waiting for new stamps to be there.
    Production hit a snag,
    Forcing a delivery lag,
And now release week is up in the air!!!

Poem was written by Julie Koerber.

That’s right. No stamps! I ams so big on customer service and getting stamps out within 48 hours that I didn’t want to risk empty boxes just sitting and waiting for stamps to arrive. So, I decided we should wait a week for our big sneak peeks and start the party NEXT WEDNESDAY — September 15th! So, look for fabulous sneak peeks featuring four brand new sets to start then with our design team.

You might ask — “What about your Look Who’s Three Challenge and birthday festivities! THE PARTY WILL GO ON! We just will wait until September 18th to reveal the three lucky customers that will each walk away with 10 brand new stamp sets courtesy of Flourishes. To check out the challenge and ways you can win, just click HERE.

I am sure some of you are groaning out there. So, I’ll do something we NEVER do.
    sneek peek

That’s right! That’s a peek of what you can expect NEXT WEEK! Trust us, you won’t want to miss out!

Be sure to join us Friday for a fun tutorial on some of our favorite stamping tools of the trade. Our designers will be sharing tips and tricks using some of the favorite tools they have in their stamp rooms! See you then!

    Lily of Hope

Not to long ago, Sharon Doolittle, a dear friend and a former partner of Flourishes, received the news that her brother had died.  It was not unexpected as he had cancer and she had just returned from visiting him in California.

Naturally that meant I wanted to make a card, one that would be special for a very dear lady.  I choose Lily of Hope for this task.  Lily of hope-Sharon

To me this card protrays the soft and gentle side of Sharon.  I think when I choose a card for someone I think of the person receiving it, their likes and dislikes as well as their personal qualities.  Sharon’s sweet gentle nature and her faith will carry her through this difficult time.

To make the card I stamped the image with Memento Black ink on to Flourishes Classic white paper.  This paper is just the best for use with Copics. I really tested lots of different papers before we made this decision for Flourishes.  If you haven’t tried it, put that on your list! After coloring up my flower, I carefully cut along the lines and then applied it to a piece of Fabriano paper using “the Best Ever Glue”.  The designer papers are from my stash.  The ribbon is old from SU.  The base of the card is SU Pretty in Pink.  To attach all the layers to each other I used Score Tape, new Tool of the Trade at Flourishes.  Believe me it really adheres and there is no way a layer will ever come off on its own.

I hope that you enjoyed looking over my shoulder today.  Please come again.

    Blogging again!

    HI All,

It has been such a long time since I have blogged.  I had to knock on my noggin to jog my memory as how to begin.  As many of you know I have been very ill, hence no blogging.  I thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Tampa General for the loving care and restoration of my health.  I think I have definitely turned the corner and am out of the woods.  Thanks go out to Julie Koerber, Sharon Doolittle, the Flourishes Senior Design Team, and the Friends of Flourishes for keeping the company afloat.  Big loving hugs to all.

The card I am going to kick off the renewal is done with Sweet Violets.

The Card is 5 1/2″ square.  The background designer paper is from my stash –I think from Basic Grey.  The image was stamped onto Flourishes Classic White paper and colored with the Violet collection of Copics, the Green leaves were done with the Evergreen collection.  I cut the image with the classic ovals from Nestabilities and then added the new beaded Nestabilities.  I used two tiny Kaiser white pearls in the center of a couple of the violets.  For the ribbon I used again some unknown origin purple from my stash and edged it with the dainty lace edge ribbon from our Boutique Cuts selections, edging it on both sides.  To my bow I added a Glazed Brad from Basic Grey…..I like the extra touch.  Three small pearls on the right lower corner finish off the card.

I hope you enjoyed the post today and will begin to follow me in the future.  Thanks for your precious time.
