It’s a Birthday

Hello Friends,

Thanks for joining me today.  Today is my birthday so I have created a birthday card and the Friends of Flourishes Bloggers have a card challenge to make a birthday card.  So here’s mine.

The card is monochromatic using SU paper Sahara Sand and Flourishes Classic white as well as a sheet of designer paper from the Basic Grey Cappella pad.  The set I am using is Flourishes Let Them Eat Cake, which I stamped in SU White Craft Ink and embossed with white embossing powder.  I trimmed the designer paper with Flourishes Boutique Cuts ribbon Natural Linen Ruffle and a brand new lace from Prima not yet in the store.  I also used Spell binder dies Label Sixteen and Label Five.  The Sahara  Sand  paper was embossed with a Cuttlebug folder that had been inked with white craft ink, it gives off subtle effects and blends well with the Cappella paper.

I used a variety of  layers and textures to create the interest and keep the card from becoming flat.  The embossed crest image and the great sentiment…”Birthdays are nature’s way of telling us to eat more cake” are two images I used from the “Let Them Eat Cake” set.   Eat cake I will as my dh had a “King’s Cake” sent from New Orleans. I grew up not far from New Orleans and Mardi Gras is a big part of my life.   King’s Cake is a traditional cake in countries that celebrate Carnival or Mardi Gras.  The name King’s cake  is taken from the celebration of Carnival or Mardi Gras which begins on January 6th of each year (Epiphany, the celebration of the three kings worshiping the Christ child) and goes on until Ash Wednesday.

Take a hop through the Flourishes Design Team to see their creations for today.

Hello Friends,

It really feels as though I am writing a letter, an all but lost art.  This set,one of Flourishes releases this month, will make any piece of paper become a beautiful piece of stationary.  Isn’t it special when we receive a beautiful piece of correspondence?   I love to receive a lined envelope that holds a beautiful card or letter that highlights the thought and care the sender put into the delivery of special sentiments.

This card evokes those feelings for me.  I hope you had a smile when you first glimpse it as well.

The Webster Pages Diecuts really made the card come together easily.  This precut beautifully feminine floral paper with scallops in two sizes made accenting easy.  I used the new Spellbinder Grand Calibur to cut my circles, using both the new grand circles and the classic circles.  The image was stamped onto Flourishes Classic White Paper and colored with Copics, using E21 of the Flesh Tone Collection to color the stack of letters. The ribbon and bow were done using Flourishes  Tea Rose Collection (RV11), Dusty Rose (R43),  Dahila(R32)  and  Neutrals Collection (W3) on the pen.  The lace doilies were air brushed with Flesh Tone (E211) and highlighted with the Copper (E33).  The doily was accented with Kaiser pearls in blush.  The leaves are a sneak preview of a new ribbon we purchased at CHA and you will soon be able to have it as well.  The Webster Pages die cut was also accented with the pearls.  The coral circle is actually two circles,  joined with a message inside.  The card base is Flourishes Ivory cardstock.  I scored the top circle so it would open easily and attached the back of the card to it. A  small piece of ribbon and a Flourishes Finishing Touches ribbon slider finished it off.

As card makers, it’s in our creative blood to love sending snail mail. We create with whimsy in hopes that those on the receiving end of our creations will feel the joy we felt creating the cards and gifts. Well, today as we unveil our second set for February, we honor cardmakers far and wide and give them an elegant set for their all occassion cards!

Introducing…..

From the Desk Of Graphic

This beautiful set by Marcella Hawley gives you three focal images to send some love in an envelope. Blooming Dogwood branches arching over letter-writing supplies, a packet of treasured letters tied in ribbon, and a desktop bouquet give you plenty of options. There’s even a tiny inkwell. Add in four beautifully scripted sentiments, and this set is sure to be one you reach for when it comes time to create an all-occasion card! Would you like to win this set? Simply leave a comment on the Flourishes blog and you’ll be in the running! We’ll announce the winners in our Saturday Winner’s Circle Post (12 noon Central Standard Time).

Here is my card made by this beautiful set.  I just loved coloring it.  It is all done with the several groups of the Flourishes Copic Collections.  It is so fun to blend the colors from other groups.

I stamped my image onto Flourishes Classic white cardstock and used a vast number of the lightest shades of Hollyhocks, and Peony, Sky and Flesh Tones1and Buttercup for my coloring.  Living in the deep south we are lucky to have hundreds of Dogwoods, both white and pink that bloom as understory trees.  They a beautiful and delicate.  I tried to make mine as realistic as possible.  The vellum was Cuttlebugged and punched for the delicate look I wanted to achieve.  The white braid and small pink silk ribbons are both from Flourishes as in that pretty Webester Pages button (which is on sale I maght add)

    Hello Hycanith

With February’s sets, Flourishes is ready to melt off the snow and usher in some beautiful botanicals and sets that really deliver a dose of spring! Are you ready to get a peek at one of our two new sets?

    Introducing….

    Hello Hyacinth Graphic
This set offers two beautiful images featuring Hyacinths – one is a gorgeous blooming bulb – the other is a hand tied bouquet so sweet that you can almost smell those flowers in bloom! This set, artfully drawn by Marcella Hawley, also features a dozen beautifully scripted sentiments to use for all occasions! Would you like to win this set? Simply leave us a comment  on the Flourishes blog today and we’ll announce the winner Saturday at noon central standard time in our Winner’s Circle Post!

Having just returned home for CHA, where I had a chance to attend the Copic Intermediate level class I was egar to color this image.

I do think I could have gone deeper in color in my shadows but time and practice will be in order to master these techniques.  My biggest news made at  CHA perfect in my book was the announcement of Pensacola as an area for the the Intermediate class, dates in May to be announced soon.

I just love this set. I used Flourishes Classic White for the image layer and used many Copics, mostly in the lightest of each shade.  Sorry I put them away before I wrote my notes for the blog.  The paper is from my stash of older paper I want to use up because I know what we have coming in the next few months.  Sharon & I had fun putting together a great assortments of all a papercrafter necessities.

I do hope that you will join the hop and see what the designers have in their blogs.
