It’s a Birthday

Hello Friends,

  Thanks for joining me today.  Today is my birthday so I have created a birthday card and the Friends of Flourishes Bloggers have a card challenge to make a birthday card.  So here’s mine.

 

The card is monochromatic using SU paper Sahara Sand and Flourishes Classic white as well as a sheet of designer paper from the Basic Grey Cappella pad.  The set I am using is Flourishes Let Them Eat Cake, which I stamped in SU White Craft Ink and embossed with white embossing powder.  I trimmed the designer paper with Flourishes Boutique Cuts ribbon Natural Linen Ruffle and a brand new lace from Prima not yet in the store.  I also used Spell binder dies Label Sixteen and Label Five.  The Sahara  Sand  paper was embossed with a Cuttlebug folder that had been inked with white craft ink, it gives off subtle effects and blends well with the Cappella paper.

I used a variety of  layers and textures to create the interest and keep the card from becoming flat.  The embossed crest image and the great sentiment…”Birthdays are nature’s way of telling us to eat more cake” are two images I used from the “Let Them Eat Cake” set.   Eat cake I will as my dh had a “King’s Cake” sent from New Orleans. I grew up not far from New Orleans and Mardi Gras is a big part of my life.   King’s Cake is a traditional cake in countries that celebrate Carnival or Mardi Gras.  The name King’s cake  is taken from the celebration of Carnival or Mardi Gras which begins on January 6th of each year (Epiphany, the celebration of the three kings worshiping the Christ child) and goes on until Ash Wednesday.
