The Cut Above The Rest Challenge

Hi Ladies,

Thank you all for the wonderful cards and wishes for my birthday.  My husband surprised me with a trip to Atlanta for the Southern Living Flower Show.  It was a great get away.  I think this has been my best birthday in years!  Now it is time to move into this great new year and how better than   the Flourishes Design Team Cut Above the rest Challenge.

Die cut, punches, or decorative borders are all the rage in card making, so let’s see how you can create a card that’s a cut above the rest!   This is the card I have  today for the Flourishes DT challenge.  I have really enjoyed putting this card together.

My Cuts were all made with Spellbinders dies.  I used the brand new Grand Calibur, which I love, and the dies are the new Grand Ovals. For the bottom edge I used Grand Classic Lace Border.  I was uncertain at first about the Classic Lace Border, but I have used it so much and I am glad I added it to my collection.

I stamped the Flourishes Paperwhites set directly onto Basic Grey Capella Paper and also used the Grand Lace Border on Basic grey Capella Paper.  I colored the image with Copics from the Flourishes Sweet Pea collection and Evergreen Collection.  The ribbon is May Arts Silk Champange.  I again made a bow using my new peg bow maker that Mike made for me from the instructions provided by Becca from The Amazing Paper Grace.  Becca was kind enough to share and this is another gem in my tool section.  I embellished with Kaiser Pearl Blush and a Webster Pages Sparklers button on the bow.

Hello friends,

Here at  Flourishes home base in Pensacola, FL we are experiencing something welcome…..SPRING.  Now please don’t throw the snow just yet as our offical last frost date is usually mid March still a week away,   I am watching the weather for cold nights as some of my plants don’t do well in the cold.  I have daffodils blooming as well as cherry trees and soon  japanese magnolias.  Gotta love this early spring.

My card today makes use of something old, our stamp set  Many Sentiments and it is on sale as it is being retired.  My card is  5 1/2″ x 7″  and required a large sentiment stamp and this set was perfect.  This stamp set will retire, but it will still be one of my go to stamps when required.  The stamp set is included in our Gambler Sale which can be found HERE.  There aren’t many left, so I suggest if you want it you had better act now.  Another something older that I used were ZVA pearls, I am not sure why I have not tried them before but boy  they make a POW affect.  This is something I will certainly do again.  I actually cut one set of pearls into several small pieces and have lots more to use later.  The image was stamped onto Flourishes Classic White cardstock with Black Memento Ink.  I stamped and colored two images and used my exacto knife to trim and then cut the shape using the new Labels Four Grand Nesties from Spellbinders.  I then sponged the edges of the card before I removed it from the die.

For my dimension, I added a second layer to several of the flowers and butterfly.  I also used Flower soft in Lemon Yellow for even more dimension.

For my something new I used the fairly new Butterflies & Blossoms (SS138) as well as newly arrived papers and ribbons purchased at CHA.  Both of  the papers I used are from the brand new Prima Sweet Fairy collection.  Both new ribbons are from May Arts Lavender Plaid and Sheer White Ruffled Edge.  I colored the images using my Copics in the Violet collection and Greenn Grass collection and accented with YG93 (Evergreen), Y08 (Buttercup) and Y35 (Sunflower) using the techniques I learned at the Intermidate Copic Class at CHA.  It was a great class full of the correct coloring techniques using direction of light and shading.

Another something new was using my peg board bow.  Mike, dh and “the shipping guy” made one for me after I had seen Becca’s Amazing Paper Grace post on how she had made hers.  Another great thing  I have added to my tools.

Please visit the Flourishes Design Team members to see what dimension they have added to their cards today.
